Its a major revision of the kernel and affects so many things that its considered to a larger extent a rewrite of most sections of the kernel. A leap from 2.4 to 2.6 was really major, and lots of articles on it online. If you were interested I would point you to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_kernel and all the references, but since I know you will never abandon your good old *BSD, I won't bother. ./Ok3ch On Fri, Oct 22, 2010 at 2:48 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I've been running Ubunto 10.10 on my laptop and I love a lot of things about it. The only thing I have never gotten round to understanding is the Linux security model, but that's just because I've never quote bothered. Otherwise Linux is good, *BSD is good, even Slowlaris is good:-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Times have changed, if you accepted to use Ubuntu on your laptop, never thought I would use Windows on mine one day, but here I am, although I always convince myself its in the interim while waiting to get a Mac since the Hackintosh has not been so smooth for me. ./Ok3ch On Fri, Oct 22, 2010 at 3:31 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I was particularly motivated by the fact that I needed a "workstation" grade software on the laptop and Ubuntu 10.10 seemed a great choice, and yes it is! At least I have a change from the Microsloth boredom, and can as well make my workstation a "server" any moment I think, without any extra cost. A Mac?? Not really. I'd rather stay with Windows:-) It's just that I don't like adventures when it comes to Operating Systems. It wastes so much time. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Damn!!

Note that odd number kernels are unstable for testing while even numbers are stable for using. So like in Fedora user versions, you will see 2.6.34.(their kernel sub-version version number) which will then go to 2.6.36.(their kernel sub-version number).
