the potential will be huge. there is huge demand for teleprescening...it lowers costs by 90%. cisco is buying up companies in europe..it wants to connect both sides of the Atlantic. *------------------------------------------------ I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference ------------------------------------------------* On 31 January 2011 17:12, Nawaz Bagha <nawazb@gmail.com> wrote:

I think Safaricom wants to be perceived as an Innovator having lost the tariff battle, thanks to competition that they don't give a hoot about business case. It's the same thing driving them to launch Safaricom Cloud, and LTE later on this year. Would be customers (viz major international companies) eg BAT, Unilever, UN, and the Worldbank have teleconference suits of similar configuration, who is Safcom's customers. Skunks? FYI I love Safaricom, they have the best internet (tho not cheap) and have an excellent advertising song (tho copied from Quantas). See they inspired by the innovation of others. Actually there is quite a lot of potential. You see Telepresence is not the end but the means to an end. These systems use bandwidth of around 15 Mbps. and if Safaricom can drive their adoption, they will see more bandwidth. True large multinationals have their own suites, but they do have to purchase bandwidth from someone. And that's where money is, in bandwidth and related services. And in not so distant future, I will not mind having such a system at home and never having to step in the office again.

I like that last bit :) *And in not so distant future, I will not mind having such a system at home and never having to step in the office again.* -- Josiah Mugambi On Mon, Jan 31, 2011 at 6:10 PM, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

Cisco has a one-screen Telepresence system. And they also have a consumer product UMI - BestBuy had an offer of buy one get one free http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Cisco+-+umi+telepresence/1502064.p?id=1218266316... This goes along the lines of the Skype TV systems out there for HD Skype. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Josiah Mugambi" <jmugambi@gmail.com> To: "Skunkworks Mailing List" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Sent: Monday, January 31, 2011 10:42:26 PM Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Safaricom Launch Cisco Telepresence Suite at Serena I like that last bit :) And in not so distant future, I will not mind having such a system at home and never having to step in the office again. -- Josiah Mugambi On Mon, Jan 31, 2011 at 6:10 PM, Philip Musyoki < pmusyoki@gmail.com > wrote: Actually there is quite a lot of potential.
