Corrections are welcome. Been reading the various articles and reactions of players in the industry including using the excuse that CCK is going to control prices! This is BS... and the operator who is championing the price control clause is playing politics with Kenya's Telco future. A few years ago CCK should have shut down this operator for its lack of reliable and consistent services, then the headlines would have been " Operator ready to drop prices, kenyan regulator opposes such a move ". Telco pricing has been abused many times with short term goals, market killer strategies and they know it. Safaricom knew that the least possible price drop over a given network ratio of usage subscribers and costs with entrance of new operators would be at a certain Ksh/minute. It went down this road very quickly and dominated the market. Kenya's Telco future in not in the hands on ONE operator ( whoever maybe dominant at the particular time ) because if it is, we are going to create a monster. That is the bitter reality. Finding long term solutions is not easy but I must say CCK and others who came up with the regulation have taken the first steps towards streamlining the sector. Sorry Greens, you may have bullied other operators in submission but you cannot bully the regulator. CCK public relations Dept need to up the war of words on the matter because there are 2 sides to a coin. CCK is not a share holder in other any operators so whatever it is doing is in the interest of the country's telco future, lets hope no policitics will kill the good that is going to come out later in future. And to Safaricom : Why 4G and expensive wireless licensing when you have the necessary licenses to compete with Orange/TKL on copper and adsl services? In my understanding, you are taking shortcuts on infrastructure and developments. Why build a Wireless Future kenya when there will be no frequencies left to do so? And as long as we have kenya's vision based on wireless networks, quick deployments and quick profits, we may as well compeletly forget real broadband. Me amature thots, going by the articles. :-)
