Evans am assuming you mean 4TB or 8TB i can get you an 8 TB for close to 150k , but you really need to define more, because nowadays the features included dictate the price since some have the apple protocol for wireless synch and all sorts of features to iscsi support on the NAS ... @Geoffrey, you are right - wow, a 4GB NAS eh? My client is a small NGO, with data thats growing more than exponentially. With about 10 users, about half of them aleady have filled up 300GB in their laptops. So am looking for a NAS that can be used as a central file server, maybe run Alfresco or FreeNAS on it. This am am hoping to experiemnt and seee which will do the work better. @Washington, redundancy on the NAS is not my major a major issue, as what am planning is to have a backup of the same in yet another similar appliance, maybe stored in a separate office in the same office block. This should be able to compress and encrypt the backup data. This is where am thinkiing that FreeNAS is going to be better than Afresco but am not sure. Anyone done this before? Dear Evans Our Nas Solutions integrate to existing Network infrastructure seamlessly, So if you are on Active Directory or in LDAP environment you just don't recreate users. The are authenticated to the Storage Array via AD/LDAP credentials and can access and share files. So If you have AD or LDAP would be necessary to integrate directly Read more here http://www.synology.com/dsm/index.php?lang=us check the business tab on that link On Tue, May 8, 2012 at 9:09 AM, Evans Ikua <ikua.evans@gmail.com> wrote:

Evans some of the said products are very expensive unless budget is not an issue, if you are on tight budget build using multiple disks and load Nexenta Community which is based on Solaris, free and very stable. Works well with AD/LDAP integration. I have build a couple of data centers using it and have never been disappointed. http://www.nexentastor.org/projects/site/wiki/CommunityEdition. Evans am assuming you mean 4TB or 8TB i can get you an 8 TB for close to 150k , but you really need to define more, because nowadays the features included dictate the price since some have the apple protocol for wireless synch and all sorts of features to iscsi support on the NAS ...

@Evans,
What redundancy options do you expect with it?

@Gate Keeper, First decide what you need: A SAN or a NAS. Secondly, detail the redundancy level you are looking at. Third, give an idea about the storage capacity you have in mind. Lastly, give us an idea about what you are gonna use the device for. On Mon, May 7, 2012 at 3:40 PM, Gate Keeper <mohasq@gmail.com> wrote:
