As the debate goes on whether bigger Telcos are really better it is apparent that they tend to be more nibble and agile in innovation. http://www.worldstagegroup.com/worldstage/index.php?&id=1648&active=news Looks like Safaricom won't be grabbing the headlines as the first 4G network in Africa after all. Interesting......any idea which vendor they are going with...the article is very silent on this. Most vendors are having problems with terminals that can achieve these speeds and this has been a major draw back in the development of LTE. Hope they would have provided more details. First in Africa? If am not wrong MTN has been testing LTE for quite some time in SA, or that is not Africa? ./Ok3ch On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 6:19 PM, David Kariuki <kariukidw@gmail.com> wrote:

Let's work by elimination, its none of the Chinese firms because if it was we'd have no peace. Dont think it's ericsson or NSN for the same reason as the Chinese. Glo is largely an AlcaLu outfit tho am not certain they have LTE-ready kits. My guess is that its an inhouse built system developed using components from Tchad and Benin. Knowing Mike Adenuga cant put this past him. You are very welcome. I know Alcatel have been working with AT&T and if am not wrong they went commercial late last year, so they might be using them. No vendor is commiting resources to developing the chipsets and this is a major problem. I think the terminals will be the key to the uptake of LTE, we might have to wait a little longer. @Riyaz, good dream you have going there Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone provided by Airtel Kenya -----Original Message----- From: "David Kiania | Asentric Consulting Ltd" <kianiadee@gmail.com> Sender: skunkworks-bounces@lists.my.co.ke Date: Wed, 16 Feb 2011 00:27:05 To: Skunkworks Mailing List<skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Reply-To: Skunkworks Mailing List <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] GLO launches 4G Network _______________________________________________ Skunkworks mailing list Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke http://orion.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks ------------ Skunkworks Rules http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 ------------ Other services @ http://my.co.ke
