TV PRIME NEWS SMS POLLING

I hate to write this but I really would like to get your views.... 1. Do you actually send your opinion every other day? 2. From what I can remember, its almost 10 years since the first sms poll during news - The Big Question on KTN. Do you think its tiring and time to change? 3. Any other comments?

They should have a strap-line scrolling the sms's below the screen, that would make more sense! On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 2:37 PM, bernard kioko <bernsoft@gmail.com> wrote:

@michaelbomett - they're afraid of sms's that may tint their image so unless the sms's that appear on the scroller are filtered, they can't do it. On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 2:42 PM, michaelbomett <michaelbomett@gmail.com>wrote:

Actually i think the problem with the scrolls is that it gets you focussed on reading that you lose focus on watching/listening.... Am they have the technology to filter these messages... On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 2:44 PM, Erick Njenga <eriknjenga@gmail.com> wrote:

They should not filter the messages! Never filled any, For most of the time, I felt that the questions were ridiculously stupid, then I stopped watching TV...

Its about the revenue the sms's generate. Remember it is a premium sms service and are charged above normal sms rates. Silly/weird question so that most people can comment leading to more sms = more money My 2 cents Joe On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 11:35 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

The polls are fake. I remember a time on KTN they messed up and showed the results briefly before the question. It was the same result at the end of the news cast. . that is when I lost faith in the media houses. The questions are rhetoric and meant to invoke endless pointless discussion. Classic crowd manipulation. On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 4:18 PM, Joe Mayaka <joeyax@gmail.com> wrote:

They are so boring - thats the moment i hate in tv watching. 1. they ask obvious and ridiculous questions 2. you never get the polls right and to hear pples comment - always they run out of time! 3. they spend like 2 minutes repeating the same question (about 4 times repeated) - that time could be used to highlight major events for the day or angalau time for sports waongeze - by 2 minutes ! etc etc WIlson.

Guys,, I think the SMS opinion polls are OK. In other channels (digitized) - you press the blue button if you agree, or the red button if you disagree (doesnt give you a chance to air your opinion does it ??) However, the biggest problem as it would be is that Kenya is still in the "censorship" age, media houses are afraid of "rattling the snake"... Reason I say this is because, sometimes they ask something really controversial,,, and we send our opinions enthusiastically and very opinionated ... But Alas! Come end of news and reading results - two things happen (that time you are expecting Fuaya smses) a) they read some two or three reaaaallly polite and watered down smses - mpaka you wonder if its a Tanzanian who sent that one b) they dont show nothing at all - they say "unfortunately we cudnt post...bla bla" This actually happened when one day i was watching news, when they asked something that was bound to generate poll opinions about something popular Raila had done againist the gova w/r

Everyday??? On those useless questions they ask?? I doubt they ever get more than 50 sms, unless it's only me who feels they ask useless questions most of the time.
2. From what I can remember, its almost 10 years since the first sms poll during news - The Big Question on KTN. Do you think its tiring and time to change?
Not tiring! It's a monotony. However, I must say that once in a while, they do pose the right question.
3. Any other comments?
If they could frame their questions properly (perhaps they always fear something and want to be on the safe side) all-the-time, then I see no point for them to discontinue. However, when the results they give are from just a handful, then it's not worth wasting airtime for. They should put a minimum number for respondents, below which no poll result is published. Is it worth publishing a poll result when you get only 100 respondents, against a population of N millions watching TV? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube
