@Mambo, thnks much for the article, you made my day... :-))))) Kweli, ati sharks? LOL!!!!! What about the "sharks" along the national route? I'm not even going to comment on the international routes as they are not even worth considering if SHARKS take regular BITES along the national fiber network. I cannot stop laughing at this poor PR excercise, which I think the story line should have been about TATA, due to its local pop with AK, securing different redundancy routes. Ok, now comes the real question. The key argument about pricing was that investments need returns, so where did AK, UUnet get the capital to take up different guaranteed routes at SLAs, let alone even one? The cat is out of the bag....... Hehehe... :-) me thots and a big disclaimer : corrections welcome.

The lengths to which Marketing and PR guys are willing to go to make a point always shocks me! Sharks??? Birates Terrorists seems to me a more likely risk! On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 5:55 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

have a look at this: http://www.tscm.com/phone/oceanic_cable.html but the obvious cluelessness between differences za fiber-optics na copper is apparent. - magnetic fields around copper? yes. around fiber? huh!. - electrocution by copper? yes. by fiber? huh! seems some people will grasp at any straws On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 5:46 PM, Joe Murithi Njeru <joe.njeru@gmail.com> wrote:

Sharks getting vitamin supplements from fibre optics! EnLIGHTened sharks maybe! If I drop my techie hat and put on my business hat, I can understand why the service providers would rather double the bandwidth as opposed to slashing the price: It guarantees their existing revenues. And halving the price would mean they need to double their customer base to retain their revenues. No easy task. Return On Investment is the only reason people do business. No returns no business. I fault them for wanting immediate returns. @Mutua, why are u feeling like u are being fooled? Looks like a fair article to me. On 11/10/09, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

@John Doe ( MIA ) :-)))) Pls note that KDN ( Im not marketing for them nor am affiliated with them) has gone crazy with their offers. If you bought 2Mbit/s from them ( @1200usd ) , they have increased that by 4 TIMES! . So, KDN now offering 8 Mb/s on the same price as at 2 Mb/s! I know this has already happened, but anyone can confirm this. That story of double bandwidth is all but forgotten. :-) Me thots, using disclaimer....

@ John Doe This is my take why I feel fooled: 1. How many routes do we have to the coast leave alone to Fujairah 2. None of these ISPs owns a metro fibre leave alone national (Heard AK's is just some empty pipes) 3. THIS IS A BIG JOKE C'mon guys, find some better stuff to tell kenyans. @Aki.... FYI, am doing 24mbps as we talk on KDN BUTTERFLY WIFI for only Ksh 1999 pm. What else do I need? ...heard that they've opened up their limiters. @Mambo, that would mean your data connection averages about 100KB/s to
300KB/s inbound/outbound? Wooaaa........! Dude, now thats serious *SHARK BAIT for only Ksh 1999pm* ! :-))))) IMHO, KDN seem to be the only genuine ones with the fiber pricing. Ok, so 600USD/Mbit is still expensive but compared to 7000USD/Mbit that's a big drop. Then with their new offer now of 4times the bandwidth, so 1Mbit/s = 4Mbit/s at same price is even better. KDN needs one last step towards really bringing the services to kenyans. Offer Contented Internet bandwidth = cheaper access. Me thots and disclaimer : corrections welcome.

And in more news, Sharks are attracted to under sea fiber optic cable due to ...<cough>The cable emitts electromagnetic signals </cough>. TRUE or FALSE? :-)))))

I would go for FALSE!!! Fibre optic signals are light pulses and not electricity hence no electromagnetic pulses hence sharks can go about there usual business of getting their high from boats and ships.
