Spoolsv.exe taking 100% processor
Hi All, Im having a Dell Poweredge 1800 server acting as my TS. We have 45 users connected and quite a number of HP and Canon printers are installed on the TS. I have two issues 1. The spoolsv.exe on the server is taking up 100% CPU usage 2. The server has over 50 "in session" printers that do not disappear even when users are not connected via RDP. TS settings are set to kill idle sessions already. But even with no one logged in I still have the "in session * printers" I think the problem is once a user logs in and prints a doc. there printer session is not killed and it remains on the list of printers seen only by that user and admin users. i usually stop the print spooler service and start it again. but this is becoming too hectic as im forced to do it over 6-10 times a day. i got another server same make model and same OS Win server 2003 standard editon. Within 3 days of working fine (as I added the users) it gave me the same issue. surprisingly, everyone with this issue seem not to have a solid/permanent solution to the issue. Other solutions like deleting queued print jobs doesn't work for me. i had a similar issue, i resolved by installing print server on a less busy and non critical server running on server 2003. i thought i can reboot the server whenever i needed, and once i did this, the thing has never hunged again. I further in future implemented a print management system, where it caches the job unto the server for 30 minutes untill the user invokes the job from the printer. if they don't its deleted in the 30 mins. -- "Aim for the top. Thanks Dickson, I will try this out though i do not have a less busy server. What I will do is divide the users between the two servers for load balancing and see how it goes. This may solve my issue with the spooler, but the second issue of the in session printers will still be a headache. anyone with an idea on how to deal with this?
