Re: [Skunkworks] vacancies - 3 linux sys admins

The problem is here employers don't value the work techies do. Simple and clear. That's not the worst part. The wost is that we techies have been infected too and have lost value and pride in ourselves and in our work. IMO if it is serious work just hire one experienced Linux admin and pay him/her the total sum paid to all the three "rookies" being sought after coz frankly I think with such job adverts that will lead people to eventually undermine Linux admins and what they are actually worth, Look at web design nowadays, you got every quack of tom, dick and harry doing it and charging meagre fees.

"lost value and pride in ourselves and in our work." after paying much for certificates ion top of a degree, then a techie can't find work. they would rather settle for this as they look for something better rather than hand in their neighborhood with pride. Most people dont come from well to do families and are expected to fend for themselves . about alvin been the forum cheerleader, great laugh for the evening.

@Steve depends where you work at the end of the day , well for all the fresh graduates please apply and ignore the arrongance , trust me half of them are earning just slightly more than that (sorry i had to go there ) On Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 5:11 PM, Steve Obbayi <steve@sobbayi.com> wrote:

Wazi Bonz, I remember back in the day, delphi programming; I hadn't been in the company too long so I was coding units to be included in the bigger applications. The funny part Me and the tech team used to 1. Jump start the other staff members cars when they refuse to start 2. Figure out why the cars can't start (eg automatic on D wont start) 3. Start the generator when the lights went off (power rationing days) 3a. Troubleshoot the generator! (even if the suppliers were supposed to do that we were supposed to watch and see if they are doing the correct thing) 4. Pull cables both power and network all around the office 5. Fix people's mobile phones when they had problems (including loading recharge numbers) 6. Very funny: the boss wanted a tractor towed from his house to his farm, guess who he asked .. and we were just simple pascal coders .. -- Jangita | +256 76 91 8383 | Y! & MSN: jangita@yahoo.com Skype: jangita | GTalk: jangita.nyagudi@gmail.com

Oh and a nice one; 7. The mamas used to call us to help them park their cars in those tight spots, reverse parking in underground buildings. Oh and remove them too :) -- Jangita | +256 76 91 8383 | Y! & MSN: jangita@yahoo.com Skype: jangita | GTalk: jangita.nyagudi@gmail.com
