What the...they even know where I am?

Fellow Skunks, I have been playing around with Google+ and noticed that the "Add location" thingy shows exactly where I am...i.e..."Moi Avenue, Nairobi"...For Skunksville's sake...how do they do that...???? I usually thought you can see the general Location if an IP (e.g. Nairobi or Kenya) but if they can see the street where I am, does that mean they know where I am right now...it's kinda scary... Timo.

When having your internet connected, during the site survey and after getting connected the installers usually come and take your co-ordinates. I have never understood why but it now makes sense. When you are assigned a public IP by the ISP it is usually tagged to your details (coordinates) included. Just a thought though, can be verified, by anyone in an ISP? Isn't that how we see on TV (CSI)? When using a phone I believe is simply your GPS that is on. On Wed, Jul 13, 2011 at 8:37 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

When having your internet connected, during the site survey and after getting connected the installers usually come and take your co-ordinates. I have never understood why but it now makes sense. When you are assigned a public IP by the ISP it is usually tagged to your details (coordinates) included.
Just a thought though, can be verified, by anyone in an ISP? Isn't that how we see on TV (CSI)? When using a phone I believe is simply your GPS that is on.
