All, Last night i hit these speeds and thought i was high on something really divine.... http://www.speedtest.net/result/627509031.png Anyone else? -tyrus _IEEE Member

I guess you can truly know the true bandwidth when you actually download something... There was this time I was given speeds of 74mbps by Speedtest.net --- but on downloading simple things from Youtube - i was hitting a maximum of 115 kbps... So I think this Speedtest.net gives you actual speed of your major link [e.g KDN to the fibre] - but not from your ISP to you

SpeedTest is hosted locally by KDN, try with a server in Ghana or Maldive 2009/11/20 David Mwangi <zaikdavidson@gmail.com>

Now that kila mutu is bragging, just using other broadband meters away from speedtest, http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/results/05946197.png I downloaded an update of about 177MB within less than 10 min. In this case, lets try download manager screen shots. -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Sterotyping: Abednego, tell the tribe by the name; visit the blog : http://gramware.blogspot.com

This for me has been a gray area through and through. Speedtest is all about which server you are pinging, which leads me to my question. What exactly is the internet? If i ping kdn from my butterfly connection in malindi, its still an ip network, and i get speeds of 100 m. If i ping jeddah, or qatar, i get amazing speeds, in the range of 60- 70. If i ping ghana, sa and other locations, its much slower. On 11/20/09, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

I think the results from Speedtest.net are officially very rigged: Please see <attached below> screen shots of : 1) speedtest.net - 2mbps 2) http://www.cnet.com.au/broadband-speedtest/ - 380 Kbps 3) actual download in action - 17 Kbps We could try compare with an actual download from a reliable source and see the speed - where is the bottle neck ??? w/regards Stephen N.

@ndungu, before you jump to conclusions, the speedtest result is from pinging kdn nairobi, more of local loop. Choose a different server to get more reliable results cause as the screen shots indicate, you are comparing a ping to parkside, with one to au, with one to the download location.
