About the archives ... what is the best way to search the archives?... The archive is rich with info ... but its hard to find your way around.

First: the archives are at: http://lists.my.co.ke/pipermail/skunkworks/<http://lists.my.co.ke/pipermail/skunkworks/>[ could have SWORN they used to be at ole.kenic.or.ke.... and only 3months worth ] Using google site operator, you can dig deeper into the site: for example site:lists.my.co.ke/pipermail/skunkworks/ e220 [ though judging from the results i'm getting, google's not done trawling the (new?) location yet... Cheers. On Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 2:47 PM, Martin Muraguri <martinmur87@gmail.com>wrote:

There was an ongoing effort by some skunkers to have the previous list-archives in a mysql db and then have them searchable on a php site. I havent heard what became of the project :( . Steve Obbayi? Need some help?

KENIC should have these archives ... And I believe it is a good initiative to build an archive ... that can be searched ... True. And i do remember a thread where some really good work had begun on importing the archives to a mysql db. Maybe we can make an effort to complete the remaining bit and a fully searchable archive..instead of passively waiting for google bots to do the indexing for us. I can put in some time towards that and am sure more developers on-list will be enthisiastic about it too .. -- Ndungi Kyalo

This is the *real* meaning of skunkworks. Collaborating and building on ideas. Just a touch of an official understanding, support, and pointing leadership is needed and we can build on great innovations - bottom up. We need to innovate new collaborative but fluid project-based business models... and DO NOT NEED to replicate or be yet another corporation as suggested elsewhere. Bottom an understanding of this constituency and nurturing it not suggestions of how unworkable it is.. It would have died long ago if it was not viable:-)

If I may, Steve did the hard work of creating a C++ app to read the archives and save them to a mysql db, I was to write the PHP code to do the searching from that db. Steve did a version 1 of that C++ app, but he had to make some changes to that app. I am not sure whether Steve had sambazad the source code to Gakuru? Status of the project: In progress, sort of.
