Hi, Am trying to get the gps for the verizon wireless branded blackberry 8830 to work with little success. . . .from research I have learnt that verizon disabled it @ the software level but I got into the engineering screens and switched it on but google maps still cant use it. . .anyone with similar experience or a workaround? -- Regards, Mark Mwangi http://mwangy.posterous.com Skype : mark.mwangy

Had a similar issue with a HTC TyTn 2, with the default OS, windows mobile 6.0 pro, the gps never worked. So i upgraded to 6.1 pro then installed a dedicated gps software, HTC GPS Tool, and it was working fine. Btw, this upgrade also upgraded the ROM, before it was O2 but afterwards it became AT&T. Normally to use google maps with gps, I have to start htc gps tool, let it run until its found some satellites, then close it and start google maps. Note that you have to have set google maps to use gps, it doesn't use it by default, and get the settings right i.e. the com port (mine is 4) and the baud rate (mine is 57600). Other than that, gps with google maps is kick ass! I was navigating through the backroads of south c like a pro! :-) On Mon, May 31, 2010 at 9:37 AM, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:

Have a similar model from Sprint. The only 3rd party software that has worked is opera mini. Can't even do USSD codes. :( Lemme know when you get a work around. Isaac On Mon, May 31, 2010 at 9:37 AM, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:
