No, not out of office, I pick most of my mails by POP3, and amsure you can also do it on IMAP - you set what most MUA's call pre-processing rules/filters which are done on the server before the mails are picked, and the rule should bounce back the mail to the sender, with you are the new sender. Am not sure if outlook supports these, but most open source MUA's will support pre-processing

Creating spam filters won't address the cause, create bounce filters and have some backscatter to the group, then they will also have to deal with your bounces, and if a thousand guys do this, then the end is nigh.

Good measures, but this is still unnecessary work. Why should James
have
to do all this work yet he never subscribed to the group in the first place? Such spammers must be dealt with ruthlessly to discourage this behaviour on the part of group admins to subscribe people against their will. If they realize their groups will be reported and ultimately banned this might make them more careful
While I don't intend to protect the group admin, I still think that you are simply pushing this too far as this is nothing new. We've taken this journey before, right? The forum which was the issue then was 'closed' but it reincarnated. Why don't we just accept that spam is part and parcel of e-mail and move on? If you've got a way to opt-out, it's easier than crying over it.
While I totally agree with you in your opinion above, I really feel for the person who is not a techie like me and who if auto subscribed would not be able to block such mails. I'm talking of an average of 20-50 emails a day on topics like politics, tribalism, advertisements, announcements Sx, tithe, mortgage.... and the list is endless.. If one did not have a way to go around it, then you'd have to close your account and create another one.
This is not acceptable and more especially if by any chance is being perpetuated by people who should be leading the way in making peoples lifes easier by use of technology.
James
