So day 1 of Pivot 25 is over, and everyone has made their pitch. Who would be your pick for the investor money? Mine would be Eatout Kenya and Usahibu. Eatout because they were the only company with solid proof of product straight from the market's mouth(though I thought them revealing their revenue was a bad move). Determination is the principal factor for success in my opinion, andI've long held the belief that Mikul Shah is just the most determined techie in Kenya. If there is an opportunity for a conference, competition, presentation, grant, VC pitch, he's always there, and I mean ALWAYS THERE. All the best to him as he forges ahead. Usahibu because it solved a real need, and out of the 'prototype' apps, I thought his was closest to a turning point. He also stood up well to the questions posed by the harsh panel of judges. What did you think of the event and applicants?

I would pick Uhasibu too , the business case is solid , same to kopokopo who solve a real business problem. What I found interesting is the figures the devs were quoting as needed, look out for interesting comments on this from Uhasibu/MpesApi<https://github.com/pluspeople/MpesaPi>Mike Perdesen and Seven Sea's Mike Macharia coming soon on http://cio.co.ke

I got a chance to watch some today, and will only say this ( from a systems perspective ) : Kenyan Mobile Developers, Whose your Daddy now in the EA Region?! Chasing the wrong end of the kenyan entreprenuer dream through not a fault of your own? :-) ( humour intended, don't take it personally ) Uganda Makerere University tops with its A-I app and rightfully deserves more mentions. Did I get this right part right of the Uni having developed an Intelligent App as the stream kept dropping? Corrections welcome Me thots. :-)

And final thought on Mobile Apps @Pivot25. I'd rather that the young girl ( M-something app ) who was quite nervous with the her presentation ( its normal, nothing should discourage her from getting better ) stand a better chance of growing the app than the App and presentation from @Njihia. @Njihia should not be allowed to participate in such an event and should be disqualified from the event due to the fact that he has marketing exposure and a business experience already doing mobile apps. This will not give a chance for anyone else to grow, and sets a very bad benchmark. One cannot compare startups in this manner. In the same way, If we were to compare some SA apps they would easily shadow @Njihia's app by a very large margin, thus proving the same point on exposure and experience and capital. @Pivot25, I guess its the first time doing such an event so the above can be ignored, but please ensure in future events that there is a balance in the real startups. Its been interesting following today, unfortunately out of time. :-)

Being the developer behind both Eatout's mobile solution and Uhasibu the above statement makes me kind of proud ;-)

I like to think I am well past the prototype point - The application is in beta-testing, and what is needed now is for me to incorporate the beta-feedback back into the system. This and then improve the reports. A full month of no disruptions (as if) would make it launch quality. Catch me at the iHub if you (or others) want a more detailed demo. Regards Mike

Hence the risk is way higher to invest in you.
