Re: [Skunkworks] Safaricom next big thing

this service works, its not perfect but its better than what we use to have some tym back. I know alot of clients who use this technology and though not satisfied fully(again, who is ever trully and fully satisfied?)they would not go back to what they had, simply becaus of some of the features or improvements on this network layers which brings in alot with them. Big institutions are on this technologies, and they have no intention of retractin back.instead of dismissing this solutions, lets not dismiss, but in our implementation we can learn and even improve on this technologies. And thats why we do nt have alot of innovators on this side of the world because we see excuses instead of opportunities to improve on the technology............ People want service - that's it. MPLS, BGP, etc make up a very good promise - but at the end of the day, how well you keep that promise is what matters. I stand to be corrected that we should move business connections to Safaricom and especially MPLS. If Safaricom is the next big thing cause of MPLS where is Telkom and they have been having it for the last 6 years

Its not just about MPLS or fancy words, its how the technology gets used:-). from the outside looking in, Id probably recommend that network over any one elses. Especially if they let you pick your own last mile. Let me give an example, I am on zuku fiber. If I can use that to get to the nearest Safaricom POP onto MPLS I'd get the service I want/need. Service providers have to re-think their products or customers will force them to. right now Id be very happy if zuku who has an excellent last mile solution (for me) were to drop my packets off to a safaricom POP who I know have an excellent core and internet edge. gitau On Fri, Mar 16, 2012 at 9:40 AM, Patrick Karanja <wabethi@gmail.com> wrote:

telkom is one sleeping giant, doesnt make it any less a giant because it is sleeping, just sleeping. They have the whole country as a single, fiber LAN. What they lack is someone in Marketing and customer centric staff... On Fri, Mar 16, 2012 at 9:40 AM, Patrick Karanja <wabethi@gmail.com> wrote:

Hmm actually for any of these SP's to compete in the 'mens' arena, they have to redesign. They cant compete on either quality or price and win. They can be clever with their products and support but I have yet to see that sort of creativity in those teams. gitau On Fri, Mar 16, 2012 at 9:55 AM, Collins Areba <arebacollins@gmail.com>wrote:

when safaricom backed out on their super cheap wimax offerings, They lost a lot of potential investment in those technologies they are rolling out. It would make extreme sense to market MPLS with a2Mbps Link at KES 7k. I know a ton of customers i have had to resort to public VPN over sim cards, sometimes multiple for redundancy just because the cost of last mile became inaffordable...
