Google Trends (July-2-2009) - VB - PHP - C#

To my shock Kenya is no.1 for search term queries on 'vb programming' on Google Trends as of today (July-2-2009) http://www.google.com/trends?q=vb+programming&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0 After organizing the 1st Microsoft Official Curriculum (MOC) C# training in Kenya over 5 years ago this is very distressing to me. It clearly did not catch on. Thought Kenya deserved a better programming reputation but it seems we have more work to do so ... India tops with most search queries for most programming languages (including the term 'VB.Net'). Interestingly, Pakistan tops 'c++ programming' beating even India. South Africa (RSA) is no.7 (Iran is 6th and Egypt is 9th) for 'c++ programming' queries. Could be their geeks write device drivers for (weaponry?) electronics manufactured in their nations. India tops queries for 'c programming' - RSA is no.8 on this one. Indonesia tops 'PHP'. India comes 2nd here. Czech Republic tops Python. USA tops Ruby. The most interesting thing about the query tem 'C#' is that small but Innovative Israel is no.2 as far as interest in (querying) 'C#' goes. China did not show (top 10) interest in the terms: 'Java', 'VB.Net', 'Php', 'Python' or Ruby. Could be something to do with their language(s) - alphabet. China did however show interest in C# and 'J2EE'. On Queries for 'C# Programming' Pakistan tops, India - 2nd, Iran - 3rd, RSA - 4th, Singapore - 5th, Egypt - 8th. _________________________ Wonder who in the world will take us more seriously because of our VB and PHP (JOOMLA) projects?

does it mean this trend shows that most kenya developers are stuck on VB? This truly is alarming. Two years ago ended up in a conversation in a Cybercafe with a young chap (21-24 years old) end he was googling for VB 6.0 info. This geek was so proud of his VB 6.0 projects and knowledge - based on technology some of us 'sold' in the Kenyan market like 10 years ago. He was not even into VB.Net (which is an entirely different and very powerful OOP product). Was even more stressed in early 2008 when a software entreprenuer (under 30) told me that there are still many VB 6.0 projects out there to do & maintain. Updating their projects (skills) to .Net is too expensive for them. So many of our developers are getting wasted on projects that essentially obsolete them on a world stage. Even worse was to hear about "NEW" VB 6.0 projects being STARTED in 2008. For peace of mind have not inquired lately! On Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 4:36 PM, Steve Obbayi <steve@sobbayi.com> wrote:

Its economics people!! Those VB guys are there because VB6 was "free" hizo siku. now they are trapped in it cause it was the easiest coding to learn and they didn't want hard things like java and C/C++. Now how can you tell a jamaa to buy VB.net or start learning java when there is cash in VB? As long as clients don't move with the times, and easy code like VB is still supported, well........
