I was very happy when the news for Airtel upgrading to 3.75G in the late December by one Larry, I couldnt wait for the service having been one of its loyal customers for over 500 days. The the wait was finally over and 3G was finally launched with it also come with free trials, but these is what happened: clients who had already purchased data bundles before, they were declared obsolete(my 29 MB went down the drain)the codes *180# was officially changed so that you cannot access your older bundlesthey changed the bundles codes to 544 which again they have changed today to 450, if you look at their GUI it works with 180, how the hell do they expect us to work with the same interfacethe work of its customer care(which is based at kencall) is only to escalate problems but have not solutiontry they twit handle, it was last replied on 21st february.I have have written a 300 word statement on their facebook but, they cunningly jump my comments and comment on othersmost of there services are down eg in nakuru the rate of drop calling is so high hata......they are working on consultations, I don know to whom by whomgo to this page and see the complaints http://www.facebook.com/AirtelKe?sk=wallone of the best comments was that "airtel wanatu Nyerify"the 3G is not working at allbecause you cannot purchase bundles, now they are charging 8/= per MB see comment below Jana saa tatu hivi nili dial *544# nika subcribe 50MB kwa 80 then nikafamishwa nigoje kwa mda. After confirmation nikaingia net, kushutuka nilikuta credo chenye kilikuwa kimebaki coz hilikuwa imebaki bao nikakuta hakuna! Me hata sijui nitanyaje coz *133*8# inanishow niko na 100MB and *450# nayo inanishow niko na 50 MB na zote hazitumiki. Tangu ni subcribe hizo ma MBs hazina na mwezi! Then nika call care wakanimbia nitume the word ON to 544 ati ndio hiwe active! Airtel ni kulaaniwa hama ni nini? My number is 254737313282. Im very bitter 4 that. Kwanini mwatapeli watu vijicredo?I have written these as a new complainer but the ignorance of Airtel has made my blood shoot up, that is why I could not hold it back any longer.I tend to believe the new boss has no experience at all, na CV yake, we need to see it. In conclusion, if you do not have resources do not launch stuff you cannot support. my 1 cent

*544# has been congested since Friday, reminds me of a time I couldn't to Safaricom , which wa sa "congested network" but neither could I call to Airtel. They were then kind enough to send me an SMS, informing an important SMS was on the way, which I should follow instructions carefully. The important SMS urged me to dial some number , to take part in a competition held together with Samsung. SMS cost Ksh 25 per SMS I can attest it's quite a great network.

Aren't 544 and 450 well known Safcom USSD/SMS short codes? ./bernard On Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 9:40 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

I thought so. Maybe someone is dialling Safcom's USSD shortcodes then rattle on to Airtel. I think the codes should be *450# or *544#

@Anthony quite sorry - but there were some kidogo changes going on through last week that may have affected the services; however; from customer view this is no excuse as customer is always right [?] ; but i believe things should be back to normal and i as a subscriber should also expect good 3G service [?][?] ==

I think the time of Airtel 3G launch and the failure of major submarine cable is just very unfortunate. It has taken away the excitement. Now we will never know whether Airtel 3G suck or whether it is really good but the fiber cut just messes everything up. Airtel are just unlucky. First, the per-minute calling never worked for them, then number portability back-fired, and now the fiber cables get cut just the day the launch their 3G network.

I think they are unlucky coz of all the annoying smses they send people. On 2/28/12, Philip Musyoki <pmusyoki@gmail.com> wrote:

I don't mean to sound pessimistic, oh what the hell maybe I do- did anyone really expect Airtel 3G to be a serious product? On Tue, Feb 28, 2012 at 12:17 PM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

True, man. Having been stuck on Airtel's edge - due to it's stability, and to save battery power on my android guzzler - it's such a pleasant surprise, it's hard to believe. I'll wait for a few days and see how it clogs up. I'm sure there are places where the service is crappy, so I wouldn't advise anyone to vuka yet :) --- On Tue, 2/28/12, Ken Teyie <kenteyie@gmail.com> wrote: From: Ken Teyie <kenteyie@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Do not even think of Joining Airtels 3G To: "Skunkworks Mailing List" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 7:50 AM Airtel 3G working like magic. @ken, I have actually given refences http://www.facebook.com/AirtelKe?sk=wall#!/AirtelKe?sk=wall or all those comments are fitina too, actually you can guide me to what made yours work, am in CBD and I have been forced to stop using personal internet and rely on others.

@anthony, Now in Westy, (work between Westy and Embakasi), in both areas I have seen great improvements in connection speed after 3G launch. May be because I am on the Blackberry service. But of course airtel has issues. Pole. On 2/28/12, Anthony Kimani <kimanianthony@hotmail.com> wrote:
