Seems legit to me. No april fool. Make sure the IP is correct, if not ignore the message Otherwise, I suggest you stop providing downloads throught the p2p route. Will they take any action, since you are in Kenya, I doubt they will but they may... On Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 10:59 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

I can think of some questions off head and will list them : Can the mail be legit, I'm still on the fence.... The ip ( masked ) is information obtained using what method, if the sentry is using mining or striping then itself in infringment. Does US laws allow hacking of hosted systems to obtain such info? Under what laws is the company allowed to eavesdrop, since piracy is not a national or international threat under their laws. It may only has proof of an IP and may have obtained data which I think under some laws would not be acceptable methods. I'm only writing this as a light-hearted joke: Find a good lawyer and sue them for infringement of privacy rights! Piracy is not a good thing so those who are in it should know the issues that follow it. Corrections welcome and nice easter all. :-) On Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 11:16 AM, TheBigBoss <thebigboss@peperuka.com> wrote:

The mail is legit - We receive several of these mails since most of the block of IP's fall in our address space, and usually on some serious cases, a follow up by Interpol and Kenya police on behalf of Interpol. Use of P2P for downloads is not considered a big crime, but redistribution, in terms of sharing back on the same P2P is the big one. ./Ok3ch On Wed, Mar 31, 2010 at 11:57 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

@Aki, They could simply be logging activities on their servers, which tells them everything they need, even the content that was infringed upon. So they may not be quite guilty of anything. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

The mail is legit, I have seen many and I am sure guys in the ISPs have seen such. This is what an Acceptable Use Policy for your IP space is for. The ISP is not at fault, but the user using their IPs to distribute pirated content. Not sure how they find you but an easy way is to check who is seeding a file and get the IP info.
