SimbaNet - Worst ISP Ever? Any Good Ones for Rhapta Road?

Skunks, Looking to change my current ISP. Office situated on Rhapta Road Westlands. Simbanet promises 20MBPS, they deliver less than 5MBPS. The connection has been very poor over the past 3 weeks. I call them, they say problem is on my end. Of course it is not on my end, I havent touched the damn thing for the past 3 months or so! I restart the modem, still nothing happens. They say they will check the problem and get back to me, they never do. I have called them about 3 times daily over the past 3 weeks. No solution. I have asked them to send a network engineer so that they can see that the problem is not on my end (for which they are going to bill me), they never do. Who are the best guys with some good packages for small businesses in the Westlands area? Kakai -- <http://linkedin.com/yoogeniks>

Hi Eugene, Where exactly along Rhapta Rd? which building? what's your usage like? The 20mbps they are giving you is most likely shared meaning you will rarely get it On Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 7:35 AM, Kakai Eugene via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

You need to read the fine print when it comes to those high speed packages. The 20Mbps are mostly guaranteed between the customer and their data centres but the moment you hit international waters contention kicks in. Even the zuku does it read part of their fair usage policy " You can subscribe one of three Internet bandwidth options - 1Mbps, 8Mbps or 20Mbps. The bandwidth speed quoted in Tariff Guide and on your bill is the downstream local bandwidth between Zuku datacentres located in Kenya and the Customer's site. Unlike with many broadband services, ZUKU'S LOCAL BANDWIDTH IS NOT SHARED OR CONTENDED. You are able to enjoy the maximum speeds at the quoted Internet bandwidth to download content that is hosted at Zuku datacentres and we do not limit the amount of data, or the speed at which you download any content between the Zuku datacentres in Kenya and Customer's Site. For example, if one person at the Customer's Site is watching a YouTube video, it will stream down to that person at the maximum speed of your connection i.e. 1Mbps, 8Mbps or 20Mbps (because YouTube is localized at Zuku datacentres in Kenya). However, if 4 household members at the Customer's Site watch different YouTube videos at the same time, each will get 0.25Mbps, 2Mbps and 5Mbps respectively for subscriptions of 1Mbps, 8Mbps or 20Mbps Internet access component of Zuku Triple-play service. Therefore, the higher the Internet speed subscribed to, the better the experience for each user sharing a single Internet connection at the Customer's Site. As is the case with all broadband services, users of Zuku share the available international bandwidth capacity that connects them to Internet content located outside Kenya via the more expensive international fibre optic links. ZUKU'S INTERNATIONAL BANDWIDTH IS CONTENDED BY ALL USERS IN PROPORTION TO THE QUOTED LOCAL BANDWIDTH SPEED. The sharing of Zuku international bandwidth capacity is designed to deliver the best possible residential user experience and quality of service to all residential users in a fair and equitable manner. The Fair Use Policy is a means to monitor and control Zuku international bandwidth capacity to give all users fair access to the available capacity. The Fair Use Policy ensures that this international bandwidth capacity is not used disproportionately by some and others are penalized on their account. Zuku operates a Fair Use Policy, for users who have downloaded an excessive volume of international data in course one day's use, which can limit the connection speed - during heavy peak hours - in order to ensure that others who have not downloaded their fair share of international data on that day are not affected." Try Jamii Telecom FAIBA, decent speeds and prices. Service is a bit wanting but once you're up and running it's good. On 17 September 2014 08:41, Job Muriuki via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

JTL takes 5 days to respond to fibre cuts, how good is Safaricom's response to cuts?

5 days is insane! I use Safaricom at work and they rely on JTL infrastructure, I guess the clout of Safaricom gets them to resolve these in a matter of hours or maybe a day at most. On 17 September 2014 09:27, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

But I understand that Safaricom already have their fiber laid out into most offices around town. They launched their own FTTB project to stop carrying their traffic on JTL.

Isn't Zuku and SimbaNet one and the same. Beats me how service quality would vary within the same locality. On Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 8:13 AM, Joseph Tintale <jayxtintale@gmail.com> wrote:

Most likely your network is compromised. Check your network first most likely changing providers will not help. Check your switching, P2P, bandwidth usage. If you like an assistance I can help with a small fee i.e 3k per hr spent. On Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 11:54 AM, Leonard Kore via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

I lived on rhapta rd for two years (till early this year) and Zuku worked pretty OK for me. As Evon has stated, Check first that everything on your end is OK. Common problems occur commonly - the medics say. /* On Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 1:26 PM, Evon Wangari via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
Most likely your network is compromised. Check your network first most likely changing providers will not help. Check your switching, P2P, bandwidth usage. If you like an assistance I can help with a small fee i.e 3k per hr spent.

Hi Eugene, Where exactly along Rhapta Rd? which building? what's your usage like? The 20mbps they are giving you is most likely shared meaning you will rarely get it

Skunks,
Looking to change my current ISP.

Thank you all for the advice. Let me first check if my network is compromised. Maybe I won't have to get new quotations after all. Kakai On Wed, Sep 17, 2014 at 11:34 AM, Collins Areba via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
