Participation and Posting at Skunkworks

Guys, Hope this is not beyond the lines. I have realized recently that there is a very deep political mood going on at skunkworks. Recently I posted a post coz I needed some help on a CentOS issue (Which I actually got from a skunkworks member) and immediately got attacks from @aki and very rude advise on Googling the issue instead of posting here. Up to now, I cannot figure out where this came from. I have seen similar topics after that and am still waiting for @aki to pose the same attacks, I dont see any. Am just seeking guideline and understanding, what is skunks about? Isnt it about sharing and assisting each other on IT issues? Now @aki defines it as a social group, I have seen topics ranging from fitness centers to advertisements, are we not diverting this too far? I have always felt as a part of skunks but its starting to freak me out. David. -- ------------- http://blog.majibu.com

David There are dictators and attack dogs in all forums. My view is just that I treat all those I have never met physically as dogs as advised by a friend. When a dog insult or attacks you, dont care much because we are taught that we dont have the same thinking capacity. Only those whom I have met physically do I treat as human beings. That way, I dont care much when attacked, insulted or even slandered by those I dont know Owicho On Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 7:32 AM, David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> wrote:

@David, I see you still harbour my conversation as a personal attack. I do apologise for the so called "attack", though someone of your calibre and experience in technology knows better that is was not an "attack". On content issue, I think anyone on this list is free to raise objections if they feel topics are not in line with their reasons to be on the list. Dude, chill and enjoy your saturday. :-) -- Rgds, "Skunkworks-KE is a social tech platform "

@Aki seriously, am not content with your answer. It was personal because I havent seen you do something similar before. Only I dont know why me, I do not suppose we have any issues, if we do, let me know. People post issues here all the time. Anyone willing to assist does. David. @David, what else would you like me to say? I did apologise for my comment, realize that I should not have stopped you from asking your query. Its been a long and timing consuming week trying to get skunksworks to move towards the web. Buddy cheerup and understand that I do mean my apology. :-) -- Rgds, "Skunkworks-KE is a social tech platform "

AKi I dont think that anyone has to see what you post the way you see it. You might not see it as an attack but he sees it so and so the best thing is to apologise unconditionally instead of forcing them to see it the way you see it owicho On Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 7:55 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Hey, I think Aki was just having a bad day that day. I myself had serious doubts whether it was really him or a 'dark Aki.' Let's move on and all should feel free to post all their queries here. Whether for 'commercial' all other gain. Maybe we should arrange a small Skunkmeeting so that some can get to meet us physically so they don't consider us ' dogs.' @Philip, lol "Dark Aki"! I kind of like that. Yeah, it was a kind of a slow day, especially after the lack of inspiration from fellow listers and a little baiting helped by some. Hope I did not step on your toes, poolay. The rebel in me is on a "leash", when the time comes to "unleash it", it'll not be on this list or other respectful site I assure you. "Restrain" - a very powerful word that this list has taught me - Whenever I don't like a post, I restrain myself from posting lest it be seen as negative. If I was to give an advice to anyone on this list is that. ./Ok3ch On Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 12:22 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

I think we shouldn't really complain about replies. If you wanted help, for which you are not willing to pay, always expect any type of answers. I saw a guy ask a question on an open source forum only to be told by the moderator to learn how to ask questions first before trying to ask any. So I would suggest we all relax and smile coz I dont know what it would have been if http://lmgtfy.com as the response received. At least aki has apologized. Some just WONT and they have their reasons not to. On Sat, Aug 7, 2010 at 12:45 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

It's been nice to be on this list and share common knowledge amongst everyone. Very reluctantly, I've followed those who came before me and went off to the Web in search of freedom and expression. I'll maintain a tiny presence on this list but will be more focussed on my site. I'm now at http://aki275.blogspot.com/ and enjoying my uhuru towards building the site into something over the next few months, years. Passby when you have time to spare and I'll try catch up soon on the postings of this list. All the best. :-) Rgds.

in line with this, i wish to ask if we could add a tool for *rating* the value of feedbacks who would provide a tool to measure the value of this forum? a way of * motivating* contributors and of course *punishing* the offenders and those who are breaching basic rules. @Tuma Barua : you are probably referring to something like the stackoverflow.com model or OSQA (its open source variant) .. i dont know whether it is possible on a mailing though.
