Hey guys, I have a problem over here. Some of my staff aren't supposed to be on the net. So I have denied them access. But one lady has a Safaricom modem and she is browsing. I have disabled the DHCP clinet service, as well as the RasMan service, but somehow the modem still works. I do not have one myself to use in auditing the connection process, so I'd like to request the list/skunkters for advise on how I can effectively cripple these troublesome gizmos. My apologies to Safaricom (and prolly Zain and Orange listers) for denying you biashara :-( Thanks. Me.

Why is she not supposed to browse? If it's company policy, then you should tell her so. Otherwise go into her machine, uninstall the Safaricom software, then reduce her privileges on that machine to "member of users" group and she will not be able to install the software again. My question has provoked further questions rather than answers. I hope my response to Wash didn't come across as arrogant, but let's spare me the agony of explaining how things work at my workplace. I would have done what Wash has suggested but the fact that I have looked at an alternative solution should tell something. Thanks all for the comments and questions. well while at it try the following - if a warning doesnt suffice , and you're meaner than a certain sys admin from hell :-) - remove the entire dialup adapter - super glue the usb ports shut:-) - secretely buy a mobile phone jammer...a fancy one can jam just her bambanet:-) - corrupt the firmware on her modem....make it make international data dials....the bill will be so high she'll never attempt again.... seriously if you have no policy, and are not responsible for her output, maybe you just let her browse no? otherwise escalate it if you can't deal with it.... Its a bit hard to enforce this. I used to set IE proxy settings to non-existent proxy and then disable editing of the proxy/connection settings through gpedit (on xp). Sorted me for a while till the users discovered firefox. On FF u can use about:config to do the same For ur info, disabling DHCP wont help. With a modem she can even plug off the network cable or disable the network interfaces so that only the safcom connection is active. Consider the suggestions above or at least tell us why they are not applicable to you. On Thu, Apr 29, 2010 at 3:43 PM, Eric Mugo <kabugum@gmail.com> wrote:

Its a bit hard to enforce this. I used to set IE proxy settings to non-existent proxy and then disable editing of the proxy/connection settings through gpedit (on xp). Sorted me for a while till the users discovered firefox. On FF u can use about:config to do the same
For ur info, disabling DHCP wont help. With a modem she can even plug off the network cable or disable the network interfaces so that only the safcom connection is active.
Consider the suggestions above or at least tell us why they are not applicable to you.
