I've god both Mandrek(Linux) and windows installed in my comp. Windows is corupt and need to format its partition(NTFS).
From linux I can view the files but cannot copy them to a different location. I get an error "Cant write to disk" or something like that. I have had of wine but have not used it. Any help please

Run chkdsk on that partition, log in as root to mandrake and copy your files. Consultation charges apply to further questions. On 01/06/2009, liwindi joshua <liwindi81@gmail.com> wrote:

As above. Bt remember, to the best of my knowledge, mandriva/mandrek(sic) does not support writing to ntfs partitions out of the box. So u cannot backup files in c to drive d without installing ntfs write utilities. But u can copy from c to ur linux partition bila noma. <>I promise to be cheaper than Simon :)</> On 6/1/09, Simon Mbuthia <simon.mbuthia@gmail.com> wrote:

Joshua for one you dont need to pay anyone to fix your problem. If you managed to install linux and windows then you are able to sort yourself out! Anyhu' if I understand your problem, you have a corrupted windows c drive(or wherever you installed win) and you want to move your data in c and reinstall win right? In that case install NTFS-3G (with this you will be able to mount your NTFS partition with read/write access) from the net, go thru the readme file for install and use instructions. just google what you want to do and include all the relevant terms like linux ntfs mount mandrake etc, but please upgrade to mandriva first if you are using mandrake -- Are Capitalism and communism really different or just different forms of individualism. Think at my blog: http://gramware.blogspot.com

There is a command you can write to mount an ntfs partition in read/write mode, it also has a switch you can use to force the partition to be mounted even if it has issues. Check the sites below. You are advised to exercise caution when running those commands, or so says the man pages :-) http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-mount-ntfs-or-access-ntfs-partition-from-... http://www.linuxconfig.org/How_to_mount_partition_with_ntfs_file_system_and_... Also check the man pages for the mount command On Tue, Jun 2, 2009 at 6:27 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
