Hi guys, I am new to Windows AD and have a site I am setting up for someone who insists on using a windows setup. I was testing it out in my virtual environment before deploying in the live. It is a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard server with DS and AD installed on it. I used some youtube videos to set up the environment but now when I want to add machines to the domain I get and SRV record error. I have attached a screenshot of the error that I get as well as an nslookup for the same server from the Windows XP machine joining the domain. Also get the same error on Windows 7 machine joining the domain. Have a great day! Warm regards, Amarjit Singh Labhuram.

Network settings add the DNS manually. [image: Inline image 2] Then proceed to add your machines. On Mon, Sep 28, 2015 at 10:34 AM, Alex Watila via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Wanangu....That's already done. The problem is on the DNS side. The DNS server does not have the SRV records to enable login. I have checked the settings again and realised under the _msdcs.test.local there is no dc, domains, gc, pdc sections that would contain the SRV records required. Have a great day! From the screenshot, does it mean you have 2 DNS servers? 10.0.0.5 and 192.168.1.2?

No...The machine has 2 network adapters. hence it shows 2 ip addresses. But the issue is not there but at the mnemonic level where the SRV records are not being generated. Attached is a screenshot of the same. Notice that under the _msdcs there are no mnemonics. Have a great day! Warm regards, Amarjit Singh Labhuram. Hi. run cmd as admin. type the following. dcdiag /test:dns /dnsall /fix and nltest /dsregdns you can also play around with the other nltest commands - nltest /? will pull up the command list. also, i advice that you first create the internal dns namespace before complicating the issue by having multiple dns. see if you can resolve the fqdn of the domain. from your screenshot it would also appear that you dont have your reverse lookup zone set up thus the ip in the nslookup screen. if you have all that in place, set your dc as its own dns server and then in the advanced properties-dns please set the domain suffix as the name of the domain. tick the both options (register dns and use the name in... bla bla) ping your domain name. when joining the client to domain, the client must correctly resolve the domain name. if all that still fails to resolve your issues, then run the following and attach the output here or offlist. dcdiag /test:testall /fix >c:\dcdiag.txt regs Samuel Wachira On Mon, Sep 28, 2015 at 3:16 PM, Amarjit Labhuram via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
