Hi Skunkers, Can someone help me get a software or tool that can test LAN performance effectively. Thanks alot in advance. Regards, Thomas.

If you use any software, remember to take into consideration VLANS. Most probes will not go beyond these due to MAC restrictions on ports. You also may not need to purchase expensive items to check the performances. If you do a diagram of your network and use the backbone-access method layout, you can easily see any bottlenecks. Example, if you have a graphics intensive dept, these all should be on fiber or 1Gbps connections. if you have databases for finance dept, again 1Gbps. If you have network printers and servers, all in backbone/core topology. HTH's On Wed, Jul 22, 2009 at 9:13 AM, Thomas Odol | Amalvin Limited < thomasodol@gmail.com> wrote:

for linux lan monitoring , check out itraf and nagios. iftraf shows you source ips and destination ips and packets per connection. it also gives you overall traffic statistics for the desired ports. for fedora; yum install itraf, then run itraf. for nagios, check out ionstructions on their website. 2009/7/22 Thomas Odol | Amalvin Limited <thomasodol@gmail.com>
