but i can relate with simon , look at coutries in Africa that have these resources , the people are either at war or too damn lazy because the economy survives with or without them and they usually get payed for being a citizen , look at Botswana and the likes the country has done more for the people than the people have done more for the country .... but i always say ..Wakenya ni wale wale ...don't be suprised to see young kenyan lads hooking up turkana women :) heheheh On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 3:48 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

It's not that Philip dislikes oil for some inherent "property" it contains, but rather the destruction it's discovery and subsequent EXPLOITATION inevitably bring forth - especially in the 3rd world. Positive thinking is good, but it is what the government and the oil companies do about the oil that will determine whether kenya goes to war or chaos. I am hoping we go the botswana way where the government works for the people, I bet you the people will work even harder. There is this thing called greed, exhibited on a human scale by individuals, and on a *massive* scale by corporations. It drives individuals AND corporations to levels of madness difficult to comprehend. On the positive side, this might just be the breather we need to fill the gap in the negative balance of payments thats beating our shilling; and the expensive loans from China to finance Konza, we might never need them anyway. Oil money and our highly educated and hard working workforce (kinda the Japanese) will be enough to take us there. I can see the shilling strengthening. The world powers will go easy on the Ocampo 4 so that they can win concessions. The downside is, the present generation of hard working Kenyans, once dead, will b replaced by very lazy generation of Kenyans that survive on handouts from the state. Guys, we have to work harder for this generation for our own sake, these lazy generation might deprive us our pension. The good news is, the Ocampo 4 might safely return to us so that we begin national reconciliation and the betterment of everyone. Peter On 3/26/12, Watson Kambo <wkwats@gmail.com> wrote:

@Watson the ICT drive will definitely not be put away. Oil Industry is oil industry and in fact with the extra revenue from oil it simply means better infrastructure including communications @Peter you are way ahead of time. Exploiting an oil well isn't like exploiting a water well. 1st of all there might not be enough oil to make it commercially viable. Even if there is ls of oil building refineries, extraction plants testing of oil deposits, policies, enironmental, transport and other ifrustracture ... add dozens of other factors here ... you wont see the revenue from the oil until almost a decade from now. So this should affect Konza and will not affect the shilling and certainly no the Ocampo 4. You think the west will go easy on them coz of oil in Kenya? I think not. Too many countries are striking oil and the excitement out there is not what you think. Just look at Uganda Oil was discovered a couple of years ago. What has changed there so far that related to the oil? I suggest you go on business as usual and don't lose sleep over this coz 10 years is a long time. ----- Original Message ----- | From: "Peter Osotsi" <peter.osotsi@gmail.com> | To: "Skunkworks Mailing List" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> | Sent: Monday, March 26, 2012 5:52:44 PM | Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Kenya oil discovery after Tullow Oil drill | | On the positive side, this might just be the breather we need to fill | the gap in the negative balance of payments thats beating our | shilling; and the expensive loans from China to finance Konza, we | might never need them anyway. Same here Philip. Not just oil but highly valuable natural minerals such as gold, diamond etc. I have been praying for Kenya to rely on agriculture and perhaps technology (Vision 2030 anyone?) but not these gems. That was after I watched a documentary called The Empire in Africa about Sierra Leone and its diamonds. You may watch the documentary from YouTube for more info.
