@odhiambo, a friend came with those older MTN E220's and unlocked for him in no time. Just upgrade firmware and unlock. Its as easy as 1-2+3.
He now feels happy on $$afaricon & U networks.

The one I have is from Vodafone UK. Dave tried to unlock it using some very intrusive procedure (documented on the net) but did not succeed.
