Wasnt this a project by the ICT Board funded by the World Bank? How did Safaricom become part of it? Then about lawyers from the USA, Is this on an advisory basis cuz frankly speaking these guys have no jurisdiction here. _tyrus

I am not sure about US lawyers but the DV project was supposed to be done by the ICT board. When the telecoms had issues paying into the Universal Access Fund they were asked to implement Digital Village programs. The issue being raised is if these companies have created Digital Villages and if they have been done in a sustainable way. It has been said that Safaricom is rolling out 1500 with 500 already completed. I was saying that I frequently travel to rural areas and have not seen even one. I would be extremely greatful if someone from Safaricom could clarify. That would be a great first start. I would also like to know the programs, services, income model, ownership strategy, and sustainability... Crystal On Wed, May 26, 2010 at 12:25 PM, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

Also of interest would be to have KDN share this info. @Josiah, brilliant idea on using google maps! Is it possible for Skunks KE mobi devs to work with Nokia OVI and put this info into a mobile app? I believe would be a nice effort to appreciate Nokia's OVI efforts in kenya and a bench mark of our creativity. I just wish I had the time to learn another programming language than what I'm on now, we would have done this project together. eeshh.. :-) On Wed, May 26, 2010 at 12:25 PM, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

To be honest the best mapping option for this project is probably Open Street Maps... Best, Crystal On Wed, May 26, 2010 at 1:03 PM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

@Crystal, much thnks for the ideas. I think the mobi app or web app should be called " Crystal Digital Villages " a digital village tracker app. Let's hope it the idea, also based on what @Josiah suggested as the core of the app, picks pace. It would be nice to also have Nokia Kenya, KDN pickup on this development. General comment : Is it possible to do a fund raiser for this new development so that it is worth Mobi Devs time and efforts? Suggestions are most welcome. Catchup later. :-) On Wed, May 26, 2010 at 1:06 PM, Crystal Watley Kigoni <crystal@voicesofafrica.org> wrote:
