One thing i noticed is that people had to battle with their conscience to approve this .x thing, a case in point is why didnt it ganner consensus while ICANN number 37 was in Nairobi and had to be Passed in Number 38 in Brussels?, one of the strongest things about the west and in particular the French people is their culture, it has actually been a pillar of their conquests, money cannot even be equited to morality, i therefore suggest that we should not embrace everything that comes our way, i know there are many who agree with this position but would rather keep quite, we must stand up for morality for this is the basic fibre of our society, otherwise we will lose even the very economy we are attempting to build. All you guys that are against the .xxx domain, I feel you but at the same time urge you to think from a bigger perspective. The main argument put forward for accepting this domain is so that the adult section of the internet could be easily controlled. Lets not pretend, porn is everywhere on the net and its availability is becoming alarmingly easy. Entrepreneurs in this industry are coming up with every new way of serving their goods to the masses (those who want and those who might not be interested) If you take the internet to be a big house with many rooms, we can say the XXX guys can be found in any room. With the new .xxx domain, they can be put in one room and controlling them becomes the much easier. When this thing was passed two groups of people protested, the churches and the xxx industry. For the xxx guys I totally understand why they would be up in arms against it, but for the church I am surprised, I expected them to celebrate. We know what the worlds oldest profession is and its not about to end anytime soon. With advances in technology, we can only expect this profession to take full advantage of it. Speaking from this angle, is, IMHO, far-fetched. Morals cannot be controlled by allowing immoral acts. Adult section, should remain an 'access denied' at all time. There is no sense in using the logic of allowing partial control of adult section because of 'bending' some rules to accomodate varied opinions.
Lets not pretend, porn is everywhere on the net and its availability is becoming alarmingly easy.
Porn is a booming business, for all purpose, but sanity can't be limited to mass profits. It should be treated like drugs. If one peddles drugs, he's punished for promoting a social vice. Porn is not just something we can defend even if it contributes revenue to the govts and individuals.

The church should continue protesting against the .xxx domain. This is due to the fact that it is the ultimate body which should uphold the acceptable morals in the society. One of the ways to promote the moral stand is to fight for the dropping of this domain completely. It's illogical again to support the .xxx domain at the expense of morals. Sex has to be sanctified, for heaven's sake!

Speaking from this angle, is, IMHO, far-fetched. Morals cannot be controlled by allowing immoral acts.
You would be right if everyone followed your moral code.
Adult section, should remain an 'access denied' at all time. There is no sense in using the logic of allowing partial control of adult section because of 'bending' some rules to accomodate varied opinions.
In my opinion (corrections are welcome) the current situation is partial control, that is a website is supposed to declare if it has xrated material. When all xrated material will be under one tld, the businesses in this industry will have it tough. Their customers will only be people who were intending to visit. No more accidental hits. And now blocking these sites will be much easier
Porn is a booming business, for all purpose, but sanity can't be limited to mass profits. It should be treated like drugs. If one peddles drugs, he's punished for promoting a social vice. Porn is not just something we can defend even if it contributes revenue to the govts and individuals.
Your argument reminds me of the church arguing against sex education. This is simply burying ones head in the sand and deciding that if I cant see it, it aint happening. As a parent if you don’t talk to your kids about sex, then be prepared for the consequences when they learn about it from sources that don’t have their best interest at heart. I didn’t say we should accept or promote porn, but pretending its not there is very dangerous.
The church should continue protesting against the .xxx domain. This is due to the fact that it is the ultimate body which should uphold the acceptable morals in the society.
Yes the church should continue fighting for high levels of morality in our society, but In this case it should ask itself why its on the same side with the porn industry protesting. (I thought the porn guys and the church should have different objectives)
One of the ways to promote the moral stand is to fight for the dropping of this domain completely. It's illogical again to support the .xxx domain at the expense of morals. Sex has to be sanctified, for heaven's sake!
Objective thinking and action always yields better results than emotional reaction. More of my 2cents worth, (now it has reached 4 cents)

Its just a way for icann and the registrars to sell more domains ... porn sites are still gonna be in the .com domain (or any domain they chose to be in) ... there is no rule or law forcing any porn-site to operate in this tld - it would be impossible to implement such a mechanism.

That's what I thought too. Just because .xxx is there will in no way make all XXX creator/biz to move their domains into that tld. As a matter of fact, I'm very sure they will not take it up because it will make filtering their content the easiest thing on the planet. Still not sure why ICANN allowed it. There must be a reason, only it's not quite clear. I don't think they (XXX content generators) asked for it. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube
