I would start by looking at top media houses websites, both Internationally and locally, to see what tools they have incorporated like. News and image rotators Integration with social media like Facebook,youtube and twitter live audio and video feeds. The list is endless, i would start by making a list of top 10 media websites, both international, and local and thoroughly researching on them. Have a look at the BBC website bbc.co.uk, very simple design but well spaced & arranged. Make something similar (but maintain your brand colors) while avoiding at all costs plagiarism. Simplicity is the best option. Settle on modern technologies and avoid mixing up (i.e use HTML5 and CSS3 elements that are supported by major browsers). Avoid Flash and Java Applets.
