This QoS-Price-match "advisory" request keeps popping up.. A friend was let down by a provider I had recommended. Sometimes the provider lets you down just when you have a very important and urgent task to communicate. Below is the best advice I have ever received thus nowadays, I always start with the same disclaimer. --forwarded message-- I have been a victim of such many times. I do recommend certain service providers and they turn my client's life into untold agony. Of late, whenever I am approached for such advice, I start with a disclaimer. I actually equate the Ugandan Service providers to our weather. Scenario: You wake up in the morning when it is very cold and threatening to rain, put on that anti-snow jumper aimed at ensuring you are the warmest being on earth, by 9 am, the sun is out and shining bright making the day turn into one hot day by 11 am. You throw away the jumper and decide to move about town. Come lunch time, while you are strolling on the streets, the clouds release their God given water in form of rain at the rate of a mini storm and lo and behold, you are dripping wet. The rain goes on for about 1 hour and therreafter the streets are all flooded with water. Soon as the rain stops, the sun shine returns with vengeance and hits that scalp of yours till you get a headache. By the time the day ends, you have gone through 3 - 4 weather cycles which could not have easily been prepared for at the start of the day. --ends-- On Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 9:59 AM, ambrose kimaiyo<mail2ambrose@gmail.com> wrote:

Cyber cafe in athi river - hmm lets see ... You must have a good population of young english reading and english speaking people.. preferably hi-skul and college students.. Without that, it shall not pick. Studies have shown its these that drive use of IT solutions. 10 computers is a good start up - but *if* there is no physical connection to the packet backbone, you will pay dearly for satellite uplinks / downlinks. If there are landlines [data capable] - the best option is Orange/Telkom as an ISP.

Kenya Daft Networks have connectivity in the area..on OFDM I believe, so any ISP using KDN & willing to sell to you can do it, but dislike because of support issues. AK will work but they don't do "cyber cafes". With the wireless solutions be ready to put up a mast atleast 30 feet. Else go for Orange. 2009/6/16 ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>

Sema Kwach umejitokeza There is another analogy Kenya Dirty Networks Anyway, since you've worked in a support capacity, I know you'd understand where some terms come from...no pun intended. Have we really helped Ambrose on his query before going Kenya Data Networks issues? A vote on Ambrose's question can help us resuscitate KDN matters. My view. On 16/06/2009, Brian Lusiola <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

Well, we also suggested Orange [apart from KDN] - they have a lot of advertisement on provision of internet on all forms/media.

Solomon, Your view amongst the rest is most welcome. It is out of this objective criticism that we build a stronger foundation to serve our customers better. @ Ambrose, We do have a microwave link in Kitengela that can certainly serve your Cyber Cafe in the best of ways. This is a MW BS connecting on the KDN Metro Fiber network which spans to Kitengela town. Directly communicate with eric.ngeno@kdn.co.ke for more information on how to connect via KDN. We are in the process of building a metro fiber network locally in Kitengela. Customers with a need for extra capacity are currently registering this interest with the KDN sales team through sales@kdn.co.ke. Thanks in advance.
