because it is costly, amounts to re-inventing the wheel and the above already work well, unless you mean for government or enetrprises

I was talking about enterprises. For government we may wait forever or it may never happen as it will be politicized ________________________________ From: Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> To: Skunkworks Mailing List <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Sent: Wed, 3 November, 2010 14:35:06 Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] OUR OWN FREE MAIL ACCOUNTS because it is costly, amounts to re-inventing the wheel and the above already work well, unless you mean for government or enetrprises

the case for enterprises to take their email services to the cloud is getting more and more compelling by the day. Just buy a domain and outsource. Several arguments were recently brought forward at the recent CIO Breakfast on Software as a Service. ( http://cio.co.ke/view-all-main-stories/2145-software-ceases-as-a-product-tur...)

@Dennis, Costly?? How?? Reinventing the wheel??? *Costly* - investment in redudant servers - invetsment in someone to maintain the servers - time spend in setting up and running - electricity and real eastate - bandwidth in some instances *Re inventing the wheel* - already working services exist - they are reliable - they have superior SPAM technology - good uptime and accessible from anywhere - additional functionality from apps So, what are you looking to achieve that is not covered above

What's the end point? Admins can / should have @skunkworks mail add's to instill fear in to the rest of the skunks' from time to time like the empire did to Yoda and the Jedi.. Dark SIDE! hehe but what purpose does it serve me? the common Skunkanchi? That's not to say that we ( a conglomerate ) cannot scrape together 8 - 10 K to get a Skunk Domain registered ( skunkworks.co.ke ) via GOooggel! and get unlimited email acc's but is it practical?? i agree with @dennis with the Maintanance Wâçï On Wed, Nov 3, 2010 at 7:27 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Technical clue to run such a service.

There was this thread where Rad was talking about biscuits ... local vs imported. The same analogy might be relevant here. -- Josiah Mugambi 2010/11/3 charles mtawali <cmtawali@yahoo.co.uk>
