Petty much. Most android vendors seem to think updating their sold phones will discourage new purchase. Something that has not worked out as phones with firmware as old as 4 years are still in use. Really annoying in my humble opinion. This is actually one of the thing I like about apple, they support their old phones. In the android world, you need to buy a nexus product else you are fucked.

Or you could go the Cynogen mod way where you get custom built OSs by random developers allover the globe.

Not that good idea either. I had a HTC G2 which HTC never supported and why I am never buying from them again ever. I tried Cynogen and it was fine, but they also didn't support it for long. This is because the graphic driver are not open source so without their support, the Cynogen community can't help much. Still have it, it hang often- the touch screen become unresponsive - and I regret installing Cynogen. If you want pain free product that offer iPhone class support, buy nexus 4. Its my current phone and have no regret Muriithi

and have been aware that an Android update has been released for it in November last year,it was made available to South Africa in April but no other information was forthcoming. Does anyone have experience updating their smart phones in Kenya,or know a convenient way to get around the official release wait time? Thanks
