I remember with NOSTALGIA my internship days in Westie - squeezing in 3 burly chaps in a single room at the UON chiromo hostels (rented it out from a comrade at 700 per month = 230 per person), walking to work, walking back to the mess for 20 bob lunch, timing the ten oclock tea in the office for breakfast, watching office-downloaded movies kwa desktop on Friday night and cooking using "visible" 240 volts!

Cant trade those days with anything. I say to those looking on internship - be strong, hardworking, perservere withou complaining coz you are not entitled to anything you haven't toiled for.

The allowances paid by companies to interns is a small token to enable them get by and its not a salary or any form of compensation.  Globally from Wall Street to Nairobi interns work for free just to get a shot ay a real a life classroom. The fact that some organisations exploit interns for cheap labour is merely a side effect of the high demand for available positions. 

A real intern wants to learn and in some cases get graded for it by their college.  The allowance should not be an issue.

a favour. By giving you an opportunity to work for them and gaining experience which most

This is how I would look at it, if you start a business you mostly pump in cash for a while at

it will pay off in due time.
