@shiro, i can think of ten reasons for them wanting you to register: 1: thats 3 (or more) pageviews for their site, and traffic is good for whoever wants to convince his (or HER) advertisers to advertise. 2: You will give them a working email address, that will register as a "hit" in their email campaigns, whether they register or not. 3: They might want to contact you in future to tell you that the free script they gave you is full of malware and has wiped out your data, so now go download another one to replace it ... 4: who said ten reasons? thats probably it, unless mna ya kuongeza. It is too much to ask because, first of all, I have to get a unique
username which may take ages. Then I have to think up some password...then, wait on a confirmation email...follow url...login...then do my download... That costs precious time which I don't have And not all sites require this so how do THEY make their money?

Well, it's ok to register if what you're getting is worth it; they
have to be in business. I don't know how those who don't require registrations do it; even if they rank better on Google (mean search engines...), what next? They have no means of retaining you; what value have they gained from you?
