People,<div><br></div><div>Though it might seem logistically insurmountable by Safaricom to register all the nearly 16m SIM cards on its network, almost half of them are on M-Pesa so they need not register again. In the over a month that the rest have, most will show up at service centres for one reason or another and get registered. The ones that do not will have their numbers disconnected come July 30th. This will achieve two things: the people who&#39;ve held multiple SIM cards for one reason or another will lose them and the genuine ones will rush to their service providers to reactivate their phones, and get registered.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Having said that, there is no legal basis for this as yet though the law is just being drawn up but it seems the CCK and the government are pretty hellbent on pushing this through for security reasons.</div>

However in Singapore, you don&#39;t get to buy a SIM card if you don&#39;t have proper identification, and they take a copy of your identification to accompany the registration! If, for instance, you call for a taxi (Taxi companies there are registered and individuals CANNOT operate taxis!) and disappear with another one that just happened to be nearer, you will receive a bill anyway:-)</div>

After all, the govt controls everything, bar for the air you breath, no? That is why it is government. You don&#39;t wish you were in Somalia, right?</div>
