In most cases, an old PC will work just fine for router/firewall since pf is not a resource hog. Did you: - Setup on an old PC - Did you get dedicated hardware like Netgate ( http://store.netgate.com/-P216C83.aspx) - Setup on your main server - Did you build from ground up getting all parts and setting up a PC - other?
Related - what else are you running in your setup (Snort, Squid...)?
