Two more things .. 1. The last line with *pavumeter *is part of the apt-get command above it. Don't execute it alone. 2. When they release 12.04 and you decide to upgrade, *always replace config files with the PACKAGE MAINTAINER's VERSION!.* Fault that rule only when you are sure of what you are doing or else your installation will divide by zero like the way its doing now

As suspected, it is a config problem usually associated with upgrading. I may need physical access as resolving this over mail will be difficult! But for now.... * * *Legend:* *this is a command #This is a comment* *You can paste the commands along with the comments if you like. They'll be ignored* * * * * *STEP 2 - fire up bash and paste the following one by one:-* * * *sudo su #To avoid typing sudo for every command* *apt-get update #Just incase* *killall pulseaudio #Prime suspect number 1* *rm -R ~/.pulse* **#and his suspect config files* *rm -R **/etc/pulse **#" " " " "* *apt-get reinstall **"pulseaudio-*" **libasound2-plugins** paman padevchooser paprefs pavucontrol pavumeter **#now we reinstall them afresh* * * *Reboot your setup after it finishes the re-installation.* *Provide feedback just as you did so that i refer you to **STEP 3* *(which involves doing the same for ALSA if the above doesn't remedy)*
