The fact that these guys use overhead power cables to carry their fiber should mean that they have access to each and every home with electricity. why they are concentrating on the 'rich' neighborhoods is a mystery to me. Granted I have no idea of what goes into taking fiber to the last mile but whether its in kile or lavi or eastlando internet use is the same, torrents, youtube , facebook and googling stuff. . .what am hoping is their grandmaster plan is to create a sort of local/metro internet such that I (seated in westlands) may be limited from downloading a movie from a russian server @1mbps but getting a file from a guy (on zuku) in eastlands downloads @ 100mbps

I was reading about Aaron Patzer the former owner of mint.com (sold to Intuit for 170 M usd) he said one of the things that makes a successful business is make a product that can be sold to very many people......so claire is very right.

We will never have an internet revolution if providers only think of Kile,Lavi etc.....the assumption being that for you to stay in Lavi or Kile you have more money. But there are guys in Kile who spend 3 quarters of their salo on rent so that they can fit to a certain lifestyle.

Meanwhile there is dude in Eastlands with 4 butcheries each making a net of 10 k per day......

Obviously there are more people in Eastlands who can pay for Zuku..as well.

Btw Riyaz for the longest I have been promised Thika Road...as well

Guys,

Another thing I do not get is why this service should be rolled out to
a dude living in lavington on one acre in a leafy estate, with his
wife, one dog and a mboch (who thinks that internet is an advanced
fishing net). The dude will pay wananchi Ksh. 3,499...well and
good...but..

...On the other side of town, somewhere in Eastlands...the same one
acre of land can accomodate 100 potential customers, housed
vertically, who can also afford to pay Ksh. 3,499...

In other words:

Lavington's 1 acre = Ksh.3,499 monthly income for wananchi online
Eastlands' 1 acre = Ksh.349,900 monthly income for wananchi online (100 x 3,499)

I mean even of you charged each dude in eastlands Ksh. 100 you will
still make Sh. 10,000 (which is even more than what you are getting
from the lavington dude)

That is why Equity Bank came and overtook those other bank that
thought they were too ritzy for the common mwananchi.

Claire.
