Now that the "internet" is still not thaat fast, and it looks like local telcos will continue to let us down, maybe we seriously need to rethink the term "local content". Here is why. The Internet, really is an inter connection of computers. it does not reside on the other side of the seacom fiber. We are just anxious because most of the stuff we need is on that other side. (Which is why some bright gurus here are pinging servers in the UK, US or India and complaining about latencies. 1: What if we decided to get a local server farm and host most of the stuff here. (After all the knowledgebase is here). In particular, what if gmail, yahoo and the top 100 sites on alexa were "encouraged" to host something local which then they would tunnel to their wonderful server farms through SEACOM. 2: What if all the sites that the IT guys are talking about were hosted locally, then uploading files would be more an issue of KIEXP than international.
