Sony has DSLR cameras ?

I love the point and shoot that I had. Please advise.

Hey... Getting on this a little late but...

Don't limit yourself to only Nikon and Canon. Sony has been doing a good job lately... So good have they become that it's now a three-horse race, not anymore a two-horse affair. Here are some two well acclaimed photographers who have adopted Sony cameras (I'm still a Nikon guy by the way...).

Final tips:

- In photography, you get what you pay for - don't expect stellar performance from cheap lenses. For superb images, you'll pay through the nose (worth it if you ask me)
- Get something that you can grow with. If I were you (assuming you're going for Nikon), I'd start with an entrey level full frame camera (FX mount) and upgrade to a semi-pro or pro with time... you'd still be able to use your FX lenses after upgrading. If you start off with cropped sensor cameras, when you get to upgrade to a full frame, you'll have to sell off both your DX camera and DX lenses and buy new FX lenses for your full frame.
- You can also try mirrorless cameras. Sony have very good ones, but they cost an arm and a leg. Olympus, Panasonic (I think they have a different brand name for their cameras), Fuji (my next project, God willing) have good mirrorless cameras (these are smaller and lighter than DSLRs, very handy for street photograhy. And I am not talking of point-and-shoot cameras here).

Let us know what you choose!

Rgds,

Me.

Hi,

If you want to buy a camera bundle at once with a limited budget I would suggest you check ebay and amazon they have very good offers.

As for the camera a canon 750d rebel t6i as pretty good.

Martin,

One more thing is to consider is going either crop or FX (35mm) sensor. Choose one and go with it since you will invest in lenses as well.

Well if money is no object here are my thoughts on Nikon :)
  • D7200 and D800 are good for crop and full sensor respectively
  • D750 has had some recall issues - can check online
  • D500 is new and has some good reviews. Can give it some time before getting it though since there's minor possibility of recall as with some new cameras.
Canon fans will suggest on their end.

Alex

Thanks Athar,

I will check out these two options. I had already noticed the D750.

I agree with you Jason, the camera battle is always between Nikon and Canon, then the rest. I will email and see what we can get.

Alex,

I'm not quite sure I'm fixed on the budget per se. I could be quite flexible, especially since the camera purchase could mean me either getting a good budget that will feel outdated in a few months or a huge spend that would probably be unnecessary.

William, I am as basic as they come, but I probably won't be the one operating it.

Whats your skills level?

 amateur or experienced?

i think the DSLR you buy should be guided by skills level.

Skunks,

I need to buy a DSLR. I would prefer to get one that will be an all-rounder, from shooting macros (really close-up photos and videos) to shooting video indoors, outdoors (event photography and video).

I seek your advice on what options to pursue to get something current while not losing too much money. Suggestions on bundling also welcome, offers to sell too.
Bundles would include lighting, sound extensions and different lenses for close-ups and long range.
