With all the worries we have over Facebook, GMail etc etc, sometimes we forget just how much privacy we've lost in the offline/analog world. I don't hear anyone making much noise about this, but sometimes the reminders can be jarring.
Recently I received two separate pieces of mail that somehow "just knew" that my partner and I are soon having a baby. It was freaky how precise marketer's targeting is, and how quickly they were able to figure it out. A first visit to the Ob/Gyn and next thing you know a company is sending us baby-food in the mail. A few weeks to the baby's due-date and Disney sends a "reminder" that the new baby will need to be introduced to Mickey-Mouse.
When did the loss of offline privacy become so normal? And when will the loss of online privacy also become so ordinary?
