How can Safaricom stop this technology though since the SIM card belongs to me, I bought it and can transfer the line to another provider if I want to.
I would be happy to use Airtel together with Equity if that combination will provide me with better and cheaper calls and money transfer services.

I think it would still be possible. This is because this does not hinder the functionality of the primary sim, what it does is that it makes a single sim phone a dual sim phone. Therefore I think the sim locking situation will not affect its functionality.

Wow, this seems like a game changer. Thin SIM is a thin layer of
plastic with circuit printed on it. A user can stick it to his
existing SIM and continue using the original network, with the added
functionality of the second provider. I see so much possibility on
this Thin SIM technology. We can have micro-service providers with
innovators providing SIM based services targeted to a demographic of
choice.

I can't wait for this with equity promising a maximum of 25bob for
PESA transactions.

 I'm thinking if the phone is locked, would Thin SIM still be possible?
