Maybe we can define the end goal before we start, I propose: *We are coding this CMS because we can. *Infact, whichever name we give the CMS, let the byline be *Because We Can.* On Wed, Feb 23, 2011 at 5:47 PM, Phares Kariuki <pkariuki@gmail.com> wrote:
So, what's the first step? Volunteers?

@Joram Mwinamo, you should not code something just because you can. Apart from recognition, what gain will the local CMS have. I would prefar to code an addon to joomla (components and modules) that benefit the current joomla usersbase. for example something like joomla social.
@Steve Obbay, even joomla, facebook, typo, wordpress and google uses code from other frameworks, like jquery, tinyMCE, just thought you should know.

why dont you all come together and put your different strengths into creating a local CMS?

@Humphrey, I said www.sobbayi.com (Mozqeeto) not blog.sobbayi.com(Wordpress) :) so dont mix the two. Wordpress runs on a completely seperate System and will be a seperate website in of itself in a few months So they are not related at all. I was running Wordpress before I started building this CMS. So in future I will do away with Wordpress (maybe) even though I like it.
For your information, I will be integrating blogging into the main CMS. I have scheduled it for Integration in the Engine when it reaches BETA. Right now I cant because it is still a little buggy and I have a road map. So if you dont see a feature dont worry there is still much stuff to put in.
But I can assure you it has no code from any other CMS... not a single line other than jquery etc in the theme. So you wont see any lawsuits.
You can say CMS are team efforts true, what makes you think I dont have a bunch of people testing it out. I am coding it alone but I do have testers looking for bugs. The fact is I have done it working less than six hours a week and it took me just two months to get it to where it is now.
Remember I also mentioned I might be making open source later in the year. I do not want to put it out in the wild then neglect it. I can only do it now during my free time so I currently put very little time into it as explained. It doesnt make sense putting up a team and then struggle to show comitment. I am very busy on other projects so I have very little spare time
It might be a big task for you to build something from scratch but not for everyone. Just the way people find it relaxing to chill in a bar and have a few drinks, I actually find it relaxing to code. I had issues with existing CMSs (joomla etc) and didnt want to deal with them so thats how this started out..
@Dennis on a light note.... what makes you think I am not aware of security issues in existing CMSs and what makes you think I will repeat the same issues, you learn from other peoples mistakes. Remember, this is still in ALPHA Development stage and so far its rather stable, even though there are a number of known bugs, some nasty in there too which will be fixed in a couple of weeks. I recently did some bench much tests with Joomla. Serving up the same data on the same server. I'm happy to say, mine runs much faster.

The biggest portion of your website is made using wordpress :-( why dint you integrate blogging into your CMS. Making a complete CMS is a team effort dude, programmers are not islands.

I built an entire CMS by myself in second year of campus. its used by more than 10 website to date. I will not disclose the names of the websites because they are easily hackable. you just need to look at the login module for joomla and see how many vulnerabilities you have not addressed. infact if you give me permission i can highlight some security issues with your website.
P.S your http://www.sobbayi.com/ is a nice initiative. its nice to see
there is a quorum of 3d application developers.
