I remember a few years ago (probably 2008) helping a form four student with their KSCE project and I think they were using MS Access Db and VB for design.

I happened to have seen the project done by a form four student this year, based on MS Access, and whilst this early introduction is good, the quality of the design and documentation is lacking. This could be due to the exposure of the teachers.

My suggestion: us people who are in the industry need to volunteer your time to go to these secondary schools and pass across some real life knowledge. There is a specific provision in the syllabus for that.

Guys
Where have you been, the first KCSE paper for Computer Studies  was done in 1999 , this  new  syllabus was revised in 2002 ans started implementation  in 2003,  In the original syllabus , the programming was either cobol, C++, or Pascal or Fotran. The 2003 syllabus allowed for student to choose any language including Acess Programming.

This is interesting.

I see, in form 3, there are the topics "Elementary Programming
Principles" and "System Development"; and in form 4, a project, where
they develop a CRUD application.

Does anyone know what programming languages and tools they are
required to use? Or does each school/student have the freedom to
choose whatever they want?

Also, since they say Computer Studies is an optional subject, it'd be
interesting to know how many students are picking it.

Joseph.
