Patrick,

This is what worked for me: (Wvdial bullied me enough with NO CARRIER..It was terrible)

I installed the usb-modeswitch: sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitch

I then unlocked the RUIM's PIN from the ZTE's interface (from a Windows machine); Disabling it from settings I can't remember exactly but it's easy to find. And that's it! The network manager did the rest; setting up a Mobile Broadband Connection.

Has anyone managed to setup the Orange CDMA ZTE AC2726 +
usb-modeswitch(or edited /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh) + Debian Linux
(amd64) + Wvdial on the latest stable Kernel (2.6.36.1)?

I keep getting the NO CARRIER error when trying to dial in (Could this
be a problem with the modem or the carrier?) . This issue was raised
early this year and was not resolved. The ZTE manufacturers
unfortunately only support the product upto 32 bit processors, and
don't provide any source code -

The Huawei E220 GSM modem on Safaricom, Zain and Yu - works ok.
