Also looking into something called Autonomy. It's alot like Solr, except it runs as a thirdparty app on my Java app server Weblogic.

Will look into this also. 

Was also considering running Solr as a search engine option. Though I'm looking for something that will give me tight coupling with my current Java App server that's running on JDK1.4.x.

run lucene with lucene-ws on a box with jdk 1.5 ... and then access
the lucene via the WS  from your jdk1.4 app ...
