You could also try out CentOS, another RHEL variant. Looked neat to me when I saw it in some company's office...

As for Mandriva, I will continue using it for a while, but every major

If you'd like FreeBSD for Desktop usage, try PC-BSD[1] or DesktopBSD[2]. I'd personally recommend PC-BSD though as its update schedule (to be in sync with the latest FreeBSD release) is much faster.

PS: For the record, FreeBSD does not support as much hardware as Linux.
