No you dont. unlocking a phone connected to a specific network requires a particular code to be fed to it so that the inbuilt software can unlock it. Like the internet modems sold by safaricom. the unlock code it asks for is tied to the IMEI but it does not erase it. Every provider is required to have a mechanism of unlocking or generating an unlock code for you if you request it.<br>
