thanks alot :) ashok. so what kind of things can someone bring in through this service. is it possible to buy a laptop online from the uk, give a posta address and collect the comp at your local post office. what are the cost criteria? say i would like to buy computer parts, books, dvds on amazon or any other like site?
take a look at the KRA website -- they have an excel sheet listing dutiable items and what the duty per item is ... if the item is dutiable (e.g. 10%) / vat-able (e.g. 16%) then then you have to pay the required fees while collecting the item at posta. sometimes they can wrongly apply duty to a item (e.g. if you are importing an item for personal use - and its dutied like commercial goods) -- and it is possible to argue your case with the officer in room 113. there is a minimal handling charge of ksh.70 for any item (with or without duty) charged by the post office. the staff there are generally quite helpful, but you require to have some patience.
